Supporting the Work Health and Safety (WHS) team, our Federal Government client requires a professional WHS Officer to help positively impact the management of injury in the workplace and build a positive safety culture.
The role will work closely with employees and managers, supporting them in managing health matters in accordance with relevant legislation and policy and will assist in the delivery of strategic WHS and staff Wellbeing initiatives.

Key Accountabilities

  • Deliver client focused advice to managers and staff including but not limited to, Work Health & Safety (WHS), early intervention, rehabilitation and worker’s compensation.
  • Provide administrative support to assist in the efficient and effective delivery of services.
  • Manage incident reporting and intervention activities, including stakeholder engagement, incident investigation and corrective action management.
  • Co-ordinate the influenza vaccination program.
  • Manage less complex early intervention and return to work cases, monitoring costs associated with case management and actively managing Rehabilitation Providers to ensure safe and durable rehabilitation outcomes.
  • Exercise sound judgement to make decisions governed by the application of legislation, best practice principles and ACQSC’s policies and procedures with the support and guidance of the team.
  • Maintain consistent and effective records and produce accurate data and reports.

 
Key Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources and/or experience working in HR/WHS in an Australian Public Service environment or equivalent industry experience.
  • An understanding of relevant WHS legislation, policy and procedures in the APS context.
  • High level organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to effectively prioritise requests while maintaining high standards and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills with ability to listen to, identify and understand stakeholder expectations and concerns.
  • Sound analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High level skills using Microsoft Office applications including Excel skills and ability to use HR systems.
  • Self-motivated, cooperative team-player with integrity, drive and resilience.
