The Faculty of Science is one of the largest and most diverse Faculties within The University of Queensland and within Science Faculties across Australia. The Faculty of Science incorporates six schools and four research centres. The units within the Faculty are internationally recognised and their teaching and research successes create a stimulating environment within which the Faculty staff work. The Faculty is managed by the Executive Dean, who has direct responsibility for the physical, financial and human resources, academic matters relating to programs and students, and a range of other areas such as the development of research, national and international marketing, and enhanced government, business and community links.

About This Opportunity

The primary purpose of this position is to lead the Faculty’s Academic Services delivery for students, ensuring alignment with the University, Faculty and schools’ strategic teaching and learning objectives. This position will also work closely with the Associate Dean (Academic), the Deputy Associate Deans (Academic) and chairs of teaching and learning committees in schools to lead the Faculty and schools’ academic services, and act as the leading expert within the Faculty on all matters relating to academic services. This role is a key interface with our student community. The position manages staff and the function across both the St Lucia and Gatton campus and attendance at both campuses is expected.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

Applicants should possess a postgraduate qualification in management with relevant experience and/or a combination of relevant experience and education/training. A demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic planning, policy formation and implementation of strategies in the tertiary education sector would be preferable. Applicants should have a strong leadership and management skills, the ability to build and maintain professional networks with a wide range of stakeholders, and proven experience in the delivery of services with students (or a similar industry with a large customer base). Well-developed high-level analytical and problem-solving skills working in a complex, rapidly changing environment, as well as the ability to build capacity and lead teams is highly desirable.
