About The Role

McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust.) Pty Ltd are currently recruiting for a HR/ER Manager to join one of our QLD based projects. The role will initially be based in our Brisbane office and will eventually be required to work a Fly-in Fly-out (FIFO) roster to Mackay, QLD.

Reporting to the Project Manager, this role will play an integral part in ensuring all HR aspects of a project at its start up are efficiently and effectively executed, with a high focus on resourcing the project for both blue- and white-collar roles.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being hands-on in recruitment, enjoys working on large construction projects and is highly skilled in navigating through employee and industrial relations issues.

Responsibilities Include

  • Provide Human Resources and recruitment assistance to the Project Management team including blue collar and functional support roles.
  • Ensure project compliance with the Enterprise Agreement and Human Resources/Employee Relations management plans on site
  • Represent management in industrial relations with employees, unions, employer bodies and industrial authorities and provide informed advice to management on industrial relations strategies to ensure continued productivity
  • Engaging with key stakeholders throughout the project to ensure accurate support and advice is being delivered for employee relations and Human Resources issues in line with local employment legislation.
  • Provide overall support and management to the projects staff, identify staff development needs and facilitate appropriate training
  • Undertake the ongoing development of human resource, workplace relations, and Employee policies and procedures.
  • Engage with the Project Management and Administration team to ensure a seamless project mobilisation and demobilisation to/from project sites;
  • Take a lead in coaching managers throughout the entire performance management process of employees including grievances in line with McConnell Dowell’s Disciplinary procedure. Mentor junior HR staff in the disciplinary process.
  • Ensure activities related to the function comply with relevant Awards, Acts, Code Compliancy and Company policies and procedures.
  • Acting as the first point of contact for any payroll queries

About You

To be successful in this role you will need the following
  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Business or relevant discipline
  • Must have between 5-8 years’ experience in the same or similar type role, with extensive experience in managing day to day HR operational activities
  • Be willing to work on a fly in fly out (FIFO) arrangement
  • Willing to get hands on in general HR activities such as recruitment, demobilisation and general administration
  • Sound working knowledge of the Fair Work framework and employment legislation
  • Demonstrated sound judgement in recruitment selection techniques
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Suites such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel
