About the role

This is an opportunity to advance your career in a Senior Management Role. As part of the suitability requirements to be the successful candidate for this role, you will preferably have acted in an Assistant Director role, be a current Group Manager or have previously acted in a Group Manager level role.

As the successful applicant some of your duties will include:

  • Strategically manage and develop the functions, initiatives, budget and staff resources of an operational division of the FSD to deliver state-wide forensic services tailored to customer need, in an environment of continuous improvement, and in support of FSD's business model, organisational priorities, budget and timelines.
  • Lead the development and implementation of appropriate Departmental strategies, frameworks, professional standards and innovative solutions to effectively manage an integrated forensic science service and ensure appropriate linkage to crime investigation and associated judicial processes.
  • As part of a collaborative senior management team, lead decision making ensuring relevant scientific/forensic practices, policies and plans are embedded in line with FSD's business model, enabling all services to respond judicially to new and emerging issues and their longer term implications.
  • Foster and maintain constructive relationships with key stakeholders, partner agencies and other government and Forensic/Scientific providers to promote cooperation, improve service delivery and represent Victoria Police at high level industry related committees and forums.
  • In line with VPFSD strategies, direction and priorities initiate and support research and development to ensure the FSD's standing as a national and internationally recognised centre of excellence.
  • Promote high quality professional outcomes by actively engaging with and supporting a culture of continuous business improvement, and being responsible for, and strategically and effectively managing major projects and strategic corporate initiatives related to FSD.
  • Provide high level advice and opinions to the Director, FSD, stakeholders and customers.
  • Provide leadership to FSD personnel, modelling organisational values, behaviours and attributes in the workplace, whilst actively engaging as a coach and mentor delivering feedback on performance.

Skills & Experience:

As the successful applicant, you will ideally have:

  • Management and leadership skills
  • Business management and or scientific / forensic experience with a proven track record, at a senior level
  • Proven analytical and conceptual skills
  • Highly developed verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven understanding of scientific/forensic challenges within the judicial system.

Requirements and relevant information:

  • Position is located at 31 Forensic Drive, Macleod.
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • The successful candidate will be required to provide a DNA sample (buccal swab) for use in laboratory quality control procedures (elimination purposes only)
