About the branch

The Operations Directorate is responsible for the delivery of initiatives, programs and services. On-ground works and services will conserve environments, protect culture and heritage, manage visitor facilities and improve opportunities and support fire and emergency management. The Directorate resources will support environmental, social and economic outcomes for rural, regional and urban communities. Services will be delivered within the demands of the Directorate's Statewide fire and emergency role and in partnership with the community and other government agencies.

Each region consists of a diverse range of parks and reserves. Staff working within the Region are responsible for providing efficient and effective implementation of a broad range of often complex park management functions including natural, cultural and built asset management, visitor management and services, stakeholder management, park planning and emergency response.

About the role and your responsibilities:

As the Ranger Team Leader Bairnsdale, you will lead a team of staff to deliver high quality services in line with the Regional Operations Plan, with support and under the direction of the Area or Functional Chief Ranger. You will work as a key member of the Area or Functional team in delivering on-ground services. In this role, you will monitor work practices and with support from the Area or Functional Chief Ranger and ensure compliance with relevant specifications such as Parks Victoria's policies and procedures.

In this role,you will demonstrate a strong personal work ethic for team members to follow and ensure that District employees maintain a high standard of personal accountability and compliance with the Code of Conduct. You are responsible for guiding the team, to inspire enthusiasm, to ensure their safety and welfare and to ensure they are appreciated for their efforts. You will be responsible for ‘hands on' people management which includes leading, managing and developing the team which may include ongoing employees, contractors, casuals, temporary staff and/or volunteers. You will be responsible for developing and delivering team plans and works programs pertaining to operational services.

To be successful for this role you will need:

  • Tertiary qualification in Science or equivalent is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing a large and complex team.
  • Demonstrated flexibility in workload management.
  • A current employee Working with Children Check
