About the role

We are looking for a Superintendent Project Delivery Tailings, based in Gladstone to lead a Brisbane and onsite project delivery team.

This role is seeking an experienced leader to manage a portfolio of projects and project managers across our alumina tailings facility in Gladstone. The portfolio consists of a diverse range of environmental and production continuity projects. You will provide leadership and support to a team of project professionals responsible for delivering a portfolio of projects from order of magnitude, through to implementation and closure of the project while your demonstrated ability to engage, connect and positively influence key stakeholders at all organizational levels will play a critical part to the effectiveness in this role.

This role is a great opportunity for somebody with substantial project management, engineering and execution skills in civil tailings projects who has the experience and knowledge to lead the safe and compliant delivery of site projects. This person will be key in the development of the strategic plan and life of facility plan for the QAL tailings dam.

This includes the following type of projects within the portfolio:

Alternative Discharge Project - a Class IV environmental risk due to the potential for a significant environmental incident resulting from the acute low dissolved oxygen levels, and high biological oxygen demand (BOD) effluent being released into the receiving environment at South Trees Inlet. To address this problem the Alternative Discharge project was established to address the quality of water at discharge. This project is part of the 5YES Environmental Program which consists in the construction of a facultative ponds and associated infrastructure such as pipeline, pump station and associated power infrastructure.
Wall Raises - our alumina refinery currently producing around 3.5 million cubic meters of residue, commonly known as “Red Mud”. The residue is finally stored in the Residue Disposal Area (RDA) and the project team design and construct wall raises using general fill and red mud to ensure capacity for ongoing production. This includes borrow strategy development and management.
Groundwater and surface water Mitigation Program -A Groundwater & Surface Water mitigation strategy is in place to eliminate the root-causes of environmental harm impacting the tailings facility and surrounding environment. A list of projects and timelines have been identified to address these issues and are to be engineered and implemented as part of the 5YES Environmental program.

What you’ll bring

A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
Tertiary level qualifications in Project Management, Engineering or similar
Solid experience working within tailings project leadership roles and be confident in effectively leading, mentoring and coaching team members as well as interfacing with senior leaders
Strong stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills
Strong multi discipline portfolio management experience, with the ability to define and implement project improvement initiatives to maximise capital efficiency
Demonstrated experience in project management, contractor management, project execution and project controls.
Demonstrated complex problem-solving abilities to deliver solutions across an operation
Capable to manage a team delivering projects from early phases to close-out.
