Are you looking for a positive and collaborative team environment where your contributions will help shape the organisations future?

Lead the implementation of Council’s Reconciliation Action Plan and support the organisation and staging of Indigenous events in partnership with Indigenous and non-Indigenous stakeholders (including NAIDOC Week, Sorry Day, Reconciliation Week). Also, contribute to raising awareness of Indigenous culture within Council and the community and identify community needs of the Indigenous community through Social Planning, consultation and liaison with community members.

Temporary full-time position of up to 12 months.

The salary range for these opportunities commences at $ $80,743 (Grade G, Step1) + 9.5% super.

Responsibilities include:

  • Reconciliation Action Plan: Convene Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group, monitor progress on actions and report to Reconciliation Australia annually; liaise with internal stakeholders and support RAP implementation in a culturally appropriate manner; build capacity of staff to engage with local Indigenous community
  • Develop mutually beneficial partnerships with relevant Aboriginal organisations, communities and people to implement the initiatives within the Reconciliation Action Plan and activities
  • Support the organisational staging of Indigenous events with internal and external Indigenous and non-Indigenous stakeholders, including NAIDOC Week, Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week
  • Provision of workshops on Indigenous culture at Corporate inductions and internal workshops with partnering units
  • Participate and contribute to a number of local networks including Koori Interagency, Council's Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Reference Group and event steering committees
  • Support of Aboriginal arts groups and other Indigenous groups it the Local Government Area; Build the capacity of local Indigenous families, youth and Elders through engagement, support & advocacy
Essential Criteria:
  • Cultural Heritage This is an Aboriginal identified position. The position requires applicant’s Aboriginality as a genuine occupational qualification authorised by Section 14 of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977
  • Experience working with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander organisations, communities and people Tertiary qualifications in Aboriginal Studies, Community Development, or Social Science or extensive experience in a similar role
  • Excellent knowledge of key issues related to Aboriginal people and the importance of connecting to country Demonstrated understanding of issues faced by Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities and ability to advocate for social justice outcomes for the community
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating, managing and evaluating community based events and programs with a range of Indigenous and non-indigenous stakeholders
  • Experience in community engagement, particularly with Indigenous communities
