THE OPPORTUNITY
This position will play a significant role in the early life stages of salmon farming and will support Huon Aquaculture’s mission of producing the world’s most loved salmon.
Based at our Forest Home Hatchery, the Hatchery Technician role reports directly to the Assistant Hatchery Manager on shift. You will be part of a small hands-on team. Some of the key activities of the position include cleaning, feeding, flushing, grading, pumping, routine quality system monitoring, night shift alarms, water testing and general support to all team members.
ABOUT YOU
We are looking for enthusiastic and self-motivated candidates who possess a positive attitude. Ideally you will have a combination of some practical fish husbandry experience and a qualification in Aquaculture or related field. You will possess attention to detail, well-developed communication skills, physical fitness and a current driver’s licence. A copy of your driver’s licence must be submitted upon application.
A basic understanding of fish biology, water chemistry, and record keeping is desirable but not essential. The ability to work effectively autonomously and within a small team is essential. You will have a strong work ethic and be available to work a 7 days on 7 days off roster. You will also be required to cover overnight shifts (including weekends) as required to monitor and respond to site alarm systems.
It is an inherent requirement of this position that work be performed safely whilst upholding Huon’s Values. The appointed person must be able to build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders. Knowledge of work health and safety regulations is preferred.
