About the role

Role & Responsibilities

Are you an entrepreneurial and authentic go-getter who is highly target driven and loves connecting with people and building relationships? We need someone who can work autonomously and has proven experience in a ‘relationship’ fundraising environment, where you engage with donors and prospects at all levels. You will be passionate about mobilising individuals and organisations to end world hunger and will be recognised as a driving force to build revenue, reputation and relationships with our donors in NSW.

When international travel is once again safe and possible you will have opportunities to visit and experience our work in our program countries.

Your role is to meet revenue and non-revenue related targets in the NSW market by managing a portfolio of donors from acquisition and throughout their donor journey, with a large focus on the growth of the donor base. Your role works closely with the Head of Philanthropy and will focus your fundraising in business development and relationship management, including major donors, grants from public trusts and foundations and community fundraising. You will also work, in collaboration with the Head of Partnerships, to identify corporate partnerships opportunities.

Your role will be involved in developing, reviewing and executing the NSW fundraising strategy in line with the organisation’s 5-Year Strategy, diversifying revenue sources and ensuring stewardship and retention of donors by providing exceptional service, experience and support. Naturally, you will ensure best practice fundraising at all times, strongly supporting the reputation and brand of THPA. The core responsibilities of the role can be broken down into the following core areas:


  1. Acquisition:
  • Research, explore and identify leads to build a pipeline of opportunities for new donors
  • Use the CRM to manage a pipeline of new prospects with the aim of converting them into donors and track all new leads which come in through a variety of channels: website sign-ups, workshops, campaigns and other special events
  • Reach out to lapsed Donors and re-establish contact with the aim to re-engage them to come back as donors, or understand and learn from the reason they have chosen to no-longer invest
  • Prepare proposals in partnership with the Head of Philanthropy and other team members for potential donors based on the plans developed with program country partners
  1. Retention:
  • Stewardship and retention of a portfolio of NSW donors including, nurturing relationships to provide an exceptional experience that engages and retains them and increases their investment year on year, including through regular communications and where relevant, regular face to face meetings and annual reporting
  • Where donors are increasing their commitment to direct to specific projects, work with the Head of Philanthropy to develop proposals for investment opportunities
  • Use the CRM to manage all donors, updating relevant communication and personal donor journeys

Fundraising administration and THPA communication:

  • Ensure there is clear communication with the Head of Philanthropy so they are across all engagement
  • Work with the Head of Philanthropy to coordinate relevant meetings with donors or potential leads, when they are in NSW
  • Work with the THPA Team to ensure that all NSW donors receive invoices and receipts in a timely manner

Public Trusts/Foundations in NSW:

  • Work closely with the Head of Philanthropy to research, explore and identify opportunities to apply for grants from public trusts and foundations in NSW and develop relationships with the key decision makers
  • For successful grants in NSW, work with the Program Countries, Global Office and other Members of the Fundraising Team to manage the grants and meet any requirements including in relation to reporting

Background & Experience


  • A Bachelor’s Degree in fundraising, communications, business or similar (or equivalent experience)
  • A minimum of 4 years proven fundraising/business development/sales/corporate partnerships or sponsorship position. Fundraising management experience in a NFP organisation will be highly regarded. 
  • Proven fundraising skills/business development and success in securing new business from donors/clients with the ability to achieve and exceed financial targets
  • Ability and enthusiasm for networking with highly developed relationship management skills
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills for a range of audiences
  • Excellent presentation, proposal and pitch skills
  • Proven experience with executing fundraising/business strategy
  • Proven experience in revenue reporting
  • Proven ability to make decisions, solve problems, prioritise tasks, forward plan, meet deadlines and deliver results effectively and creatively
  • Experience managing and working with customer and/or fundraising databases
  • Experience dealing with multiple stakeholder groups in different countries desirable
