About the Organisation
The Lutheran Church of Australia (LCA), which includes the Lutheran Church of New Zealand (LCNZ), is a relatively small Christian denomination, with about 30,000 regular worshippers.

By contrast, the worldwide Lutheran Church, with around 80 million adherents, is the second largest non-Catholic church (and the largest Protestant church) in the world. In Australia and New Zealand, there are more than 600 Lutheran congregations, about 520 pastors (including those who have retired) and more than 560 registered lay workers and other employees.

About the Opportunity
The Lutheran Church of Australia is looking to welcome an experienced Payroll Officer to their team in North Adelaide, SA on a part-time basis (0.8 FTE/30.4 hours per week).

Reporting to the Business Manager, you will be responsible for processing end-to-end payroll and associated services for church workers throughout Australia. As a Bureau payroll service, the LCA manages the payroll of approximately 1000 workers, and you will be working as part of a 2-person team, directly responsible for the payroll of around 500 each.

More specifically, your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Processing a fortnightly payroll and associated monthly compliance responsibilities;
  • Managing record keeping and maintenance of databases;
  • Performing customer service responsibilities as needed;
  • Liaising with both employers and employees on payroll issues; and
  • Attending to clerical duties as directed by the Business Manager.

About You
It is essential that you have strong payroll administration skills and are capable of working with a high degree of accuracy, in addition to the proven ability to work to strict deadlines. You will be able to work autonomously and show initiative where required, whilst having the interpersonal and communication skills required to work as part of a small team.

A strong working knowledge of Ascender’s Preceda platform would be highly regarded, and you will need to be confident using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
