What we are looking for:

We're on the hunt for an experienced communications professional who is passionate about helping small businesses succeed. Working within the Customer and External Communications function, you’ll be part of the Global Communications team - a geographically diverse team that is focused on driving excellence in all aspects of communications for Xero’s key markets.

You’ll support the Customer and External Communications team to drive Xero’s customer-focused content and objectives. You will be involved all the way from developing communications plans, researching, drafting narratives, messaging and briefing documents, to writing bylines, blogs and case studies - while meeting tight deadlines.
You will have a strong creative and journalistic mindset, and plenty of experience as a storyteller, having experience either as a journalist or as a content-focused communications professional. You know how to explain the benefits and impact of industry to both customers, media, and other external audiences. You will be an excellent writer who can help to generate ideas on how to tell a story – in which format and on which channels. You will be able to understand technical customer detail and translate benefits into easily digestible copy.

This role will be based in Auckland, Sydney or Melbourne

What you'll do:

    • Creative storytelling and content development for the customer team.
    • Producing a broad range of editorial content, thought leadership or informational content, bylined media articles, key messages and briefing docs, blogs, and presentations on a range of topics and issues relating to the customer team.
    • Developing communications plans for key customer focused projects that consider all key stakeholders and customer impact.
    • Develop proactive customer stories that align with key customer objectives and outcomes.
    • Developing written materials to promote customer initiatives to both small business and accounting audiences through media and digital channels.

What you'll bring:

    • BA BBus in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or Marketing preferred
    • Extensive experience in communications, marketing and/or technology, or PR agency
    • Experience in the technology sector and knowledge of platform based businesses is valued
    • A strong writer that can interpret complex information into clear messaging.
    • A sound communicator that has a passion for content creation.
    • Demonstrable experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously and working across different stakeholder groups.
    • Ideally, you’ll have experience in worlds of small business, accounting, finance and/or tech industries
