As Western Australia’s leading hazard management agency, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services performs a critical role coordinating emergency services for a range of natural disasters and emergency incidents threatening life and property.

The Human Resources and Safety (HRS) Directorate is comprised of six business areas – Industrial Relations, Workforce Services, Health and Safety, Workers Compensation and Injury Management, Wellness and Strategic Volunteer and Youth Programs. This diverse group of staff are collectively responsible for the delivery of statewide workforce services to staff and volunteers.

This role takes responsibility for managing all aspects of organisational workforce planning and the implementation of strategic human resources projects to support workforce needs. The role is responsible for monitoring, analysing and reporting workforce data and approved staffing levels and supporting planning for future workforce needs such as firefighter numbers and workforce mix.

We currently have one (1) fixed term opportinuty for a period of 12 months with the possibility of extension or permanency.

This selection process may be used to fill other similar temporary and permanent positions that arise in DFES within 12 months. Applicants deemed suitable but not recommended may still be considered for those roles.


  1. Knowledge of and experience in delivering workforce planning initiatives and undertaking workforce modelling, forecasting and scenario mapping.
  2. Ability to create and manipulate spreadsheets with advanced formula application and database software (Advanced Excel) and HR solution systems.
  3. Ability to lead and manage project teams in the initiation, development and implementation of projects.
  4. Proven ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  5. An ability to conceptualise problems, analyse and review issues and data, evaluate findings and present possible solutions with minimal direction.


Successful applicants must have the following prerequisites:

  • Possession of a tertiary qualification (Bachelor degree minimum) in a relevant discipline.
