Guardian Australia (www.theguardian.com/au) launched in May 2013 as part of Guardian News & Media (GNM), one of the largest English language newspaper websites in the world (www.theguardian.com).

Following the successful launch of our daily podcast, Full Story, in 2019, Guardian Australia is recruiting a team of ambitious producers to develop and execute the next stage of our audio strategy.

The new producers will have different levels of experience and skills, including experience in one or more of the following:

  • Supervising/senior production
  • Editing interview based and/or multivoice talk shows
  • Making audio features
  • Project management

All producers will have responsibility for developing show ideas into pilots, establishing workflows for regular production, creating the podcasts, pitching ideas and undertaking the research, recording and editing required to create multiple podcasts.

To be considered for this role you will have demonstrated experience creating either interview-based shows or multi-participant conversation shows or in editing multi-voice audio packages involving music and field audio.

The role requires a collaborative approach and the ability to prepare detailed research briefs for interviews and conduct and record interviews that draw the best out of Guardian staff, external contributors, experts and members of the public. The successful candidates will also be creative, proactive and organised, thrive operating in a fast-paced and demanding environment, and remain calm under pressure.

In addition to the production skills required, we are interested in any specialist knowledge you may have, for example in politics, economics, pop culture, science, health, arts or internet culture. We are also interested in candidates with any experience in hosting radio, podcasts or audio packages for when we may need fill-in hosts.

Senior candidates must have experience in giving practical, constructive feedback on audio edits and be able to uphold an established culture of learning and development in the audio team. They will also have a deep understanding of the production style of Full Story to be able to supervise episodes of that show.

Closing date for applications: Thursday, 15 April 2021

We believe that our role in the Australian media is to give a voice to the most marginalised people in society and value and respect all differences in all people — including people of colour, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from different social classes and people with disabilities (seen and unseen). We believe that these communities must be centred in the work we do, bringing a new perspective and a diversity of thought. We strongly encourage applications from people with these identities and/or marginalised groups.
