Agency Overview

The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) encompasses of various functions, each playing a part in creating a sustainable and greener NSW, whilst supporting our growing industries.

The Department’s Green and Resilient Places Division is seeking a Senior Policy or Planning Officer.

In this role, you will work with consultants and other agencies to provide support to Aboriginal communities, to activate their land by developing biodiversity policy and program solutions. The role also contributes as needed to the development of the Central Coast Strategic Conservation Plan. This is an opportunity to be involved in delivering one of the largest strategic conservation planning exercises in Australia as well as other important work to support better outcomes for Aboriginal communities.

This role is targeted to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and they are encouraged to apply.

About the Role

As a Senior Planning/Policy Officer in this role, you will:

  • Manage and coordinate allocated projects to contribute to delivering policy development and testing
  • Contribute to program management to deliver the Project Plan
  • Provide timely, expert and accurate advice to enhance informed decision making across the Department about program, policy and planning issues and initiatives
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders and other agencies to deliver the project plan and policy initiatives.

About You

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in public policy, planning, law, economics, ecology, environmental science or other relevant discipline or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated experience working in environmental policy, biodiversity assessment and planning, or project management is highly regarded

Job Notes

A Recruitment Pool may be established for future temporary and ongoing roles with similar focus capabilities. The Recruitment Pool may be available to hiring managers from DPIE and other NSW Public Sector agencies over an 18-month period.
