  • The Forensic Disability Services (FDS) is a medium secure facility which is designed for up to 10 adults with an intellectual disability who are detained on a forensic order under the provisions of the Mental Health Act 2016 and require secure care under the Forensic Disability Act 2011.
  • The service is designed to provide a safe environment and developmental services to meet the specific needs of the clients. FDS provides evidence-based treatment, habilitation programs and person-centred support to enable clients to:

Role Scope

You will work as one of two Operational Team Leaders (line-share) based in the house managing a team of Forensic Officers.

Operational Team Leader will work in collaboration with other Operational Team Leaders and Clinical Team Leaders (Clinical Services) to ensure that clients at FDS are progressing forward with their treatment, and meeting milestones to support their future transition and reintegration into their community. As an Operational Team Leader, you will have knowledge, understanding and experience of applying the positive behaviour support model with clients who have a cognitive impairment.

As an Operational Team Leader, you will supervise and lead a team of Forensic Officers to ensure that they deliver high quality support and services to clients in the FDS and that they consistently demonstrate professional and ethical conduct. You will ensure that staff practices are consistent with all relevant legislative requirements, policies, procedures and practices, including the Forensic Disability Act 2011 (Qld) and the Human Rights Act 2019 (Qld).

The Operational Team Leader may exercise specific powers or functions as conferred by a declaration, appointment or delegation under the Forensic Disability Act 2011.

Operational Team Leaders need to maintain an appropriate level of general health and fitness in order to undertake their duties. They must be capable of performing all physical requirements of the position which may include actively engaging clients in sport and recreation activities including active participation, and if required provide physical assistance, and employee physical intervention.

It is vital that Operational Team Leaders have the ability to be emotionally resilient and demonstrate perseverance in achieving objectives and coping effectively with setbacks, challenges and incidents.

The Operational Team Leader is responsible for approving rosters and leave for the Forensic Officers they manage with consideration for the operations of the entire service. The Operational Team Leader will deploy staff on a shift by shift basis and respond to staff shortages after business hours, weekends and public holidays.

The role requires the ability to perform continuous shift work across 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on rostered shifts, which can involve a combination of morning, afternoon and night shifts including weekends.

Due to the nature of shift work the ability to convey important information to co-workers at the end of each shift and ability to communicate clearly and to work together is critical.
