Position Profile: We are currently seeking Trainee and Service Registrars to provide a high quality patient centred care to patients under the supervision of the Head of Department or duty consultant in the Emergency Medicine Department.

The successful applicants will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to review the medical needs of patients within Rockingham Peel Group (RkPG) and provide teaching and support, as appropriate to Doctors in Training (DiT’s), Nursing, Allied Health and other multidisciplinary team members across the service and will be expected to share after-hours, evening and night shift with their peers on a pro-rata basis.

Area Profile: Rockingham Peel Group (RkPG) is part of the South Metropolitan Health Service, one of the fastest growing health services in Western Australia and comprises two hospital campuses, Rockingham General Hospital (RGH) and Murray District Hospital (MDH), in addition to community and mental health services across Peel, Rockingham and Kwinana. As the flagship hospital, RGH is focused on providing high quality general medical, surgical and mental health services as well as outpatient care. MDH provides post sub-acute services and care awaiting placement.

Our ED treats 54,000+ patients per year with a varied and interesting case-mix, which includes 30% paediatric presentations and is supported by paediatric, surgical, medical, anaesthetic, obstetrics and gynaecology and ICU services and has close links to the nearby tertiary hospital. A separate paediatric area in the ED opened in May 2014. RGH employs Consultants with advanced ultrasound training and provides regular ultrasound training on FAST, venous access, AAA, nerve block, early pregnancy scanning, and DVT.

Our ED is accredited for 12 months of advanced training with the Australian College for Emergency Medicine (including Paediatric Log-book), and has a highly-regarded Registrar teaching program with 2 hours per week protected teaching time and a first part exam and fellowship exam preparation program with a track record of success. In addition, our registrars participate in monthly simulation training and in multidisciplinary simulation training days with our ED nurses. There is also an option of non-clinical time and duties for advanced ED trainees.
