About the team

This position is within the Mitochondrial Medicine and Biology Group. More specifically, the appointee will work in the UWA Centre for Medical Research within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences based at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research (Perkins) in Nedlands, Western Australia. The Centre has significant links across the national and international health sector and provides teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students across the medical disciplines. A core priority is medical and clinical research and a number of substantial research groups are based in the Centre’s laboratories.

About the opportunity

In this position you will, under limited direction, perform bioinformatic analyses for projects within the Mitochondrial Medicine and Biology group. You will analyse genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic and metabolomic datasets. You will be required to have extensive skills in RNA sequencing analyses, ATAC-sequencing analyses, whole genome and exome sequencing analyses to identify mutations and analyse the functional effects of mutations in human and mouse genomes. Programming and software development skills are highly desirable.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

  • A PhD or equivalent in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Genetics or equivalent
  • Bioinformatics experience, experience in analysing transcriptomic and proteomic data, software development experience is highly desirable as well as statistics background
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills, demonstrated ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision and work productively as part of a team
  • Experience supervising and training honours students and other research personnel
