About the role:

The purpose of this role is to provide a high level of business and technical consultancy in all areas of Telecommunications (Telco), and Information Communications Technologies (ICT) to customer accounts.

The Consulting Architect exhibits in-depth technology and business knowledge across a range of industry segments and technology specialties within the Telco and ICT space to deliver solutions to Optus customers. The role will place a strong emphasis on the value proposition of ‘enterprise-wide solutions to address a customer’s varying business needs.

The Consulting Architect is responsible for providing direction and leadership to technical teams, potentially drawing on expertise from the broader Optus business when targeting major opportunities and developing associated proposals. This will include being responsible for supporting complex major accounts whose commercial needs require sophisticated, innovative and integrated business solutions. The role will be extensively customer-facing, requires a strong rapport with the customer with extensive experience of presenting to the C-level executive, contribution to proposal authoring, and innovative thinking.

The position provides a key link between the sales process, product capability owners, and implementation teams.

*** This role involves work for the Australian Government and will potentially have access to classified information/resources. As such, a security clearance is required and therefore it is a requirement that the successful candidate be an Australian Citizen. ***


  • Develop and facilitate multi-level customer relationships focusing on senior management across diverse business units within the customer account including decision-makers.
  • Technical Owner for the management and preparation of quotes, proposals, tenders and bid responses.
  • Have a detailed understanding of both the Customer's Telco & ICT environment and that of market competitors to ensure that Optus can provide effective competitive comparisons and strategic solutions
  • Work with product management, customer engineering and marketing to obtain relevant product knowledge and establish a channel from sales in the “back office”.
  • Meet all established orders and revenue targets
Experience required:
  • Minimum of 10 years working in the communications & Information Technology industries) providing technical and consulting support.
  • Broad-based ICT/Telecommunications systems design background with a detailed understanding of enterprise-wide system architecture and service management methodologies.
  • Understanding of industry trends and directions (local and international) Relevant vendor and industry certifications. E.g. Cisco.
  • Ability to recognize and analyse the customer’s business needs and translate them into relevant ICT solutions. Be able to articulate the value proposition to the customer.
  • Experience in the development of long-term business relationships and developing strategic sales plans are essential.
  • Ability to lead major Design teams through setting the architecture strategy, including leading RFT submission activities
  • Strong thought leadership and collaboration skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of the contract, risk, and commercial risks.
