About Department

The Elective Surgery Team coordinates the care of those patients that are on the St Vincent’s Hospital elective surgery and endoscopy waiting list in accordance with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Elective Surgery Access Policy (ESAP). They are responsible for the case management and coordination of care for patients from when they go on the surgical waitlist until they are scheduled and have their procedure.

About the Role

You are accountable for the management of patients on the Elective Surgery and Endoscopy Waiting List from a clerical perspective within the guidelines of the Department of Health Elective Surgery Access Policy and across the entire continuum of care from placement on the waiting list to day of surgery.

The classification for this position will be HS1 ($58,442 per annum).


  • Receive and process waiting list forms from specialist clinics, private rooms and other areas of SVHM within stipulated time frame as per DHHS Elective Surgery Access Policy
  • Accurately create, record and update the Waiting List Screen on Patient Administration System (PAS) as required
  • Schedule patients for theatre and endoscopy sessions timely and efficiently
  • Problem solve and support the scheduling of complex patients requiring an elective procedure
  • Work closely with the Surgical and Endoscopy Liaison Nurses to ensure efficiency in booking patients for theatre

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience within healthcare is desirable
  • Experience with patient administration systems
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Previous administrative experience within elective surgery
