An exciting opportunity exists to join the Cancer Care Service at Wollongong Hospital.

What You'll Be Doing

The Associate Cancer Genetic Counsellor will work within the Hereditary Cancer Clinic, providing genetic counselling and education of clients, triaging of referrals, organisation of clinic, education of health professionals and the community, and promotion of the Hereditary Cancer Clinic.
The Level 1 clinician is responsible and accountable for providing a professional level of service to the health facility.
The Level 1 clinician will exercise professional judgement commensurate with their years of experience, as experienced is gained, the level of professional judgement increases and direct professional supervision decreases.

The Level 1 clinician will participate in quality activities and workplace education.

After 12 months experience the Level 1 Clinician may be required to provide supervision to undergraduate students and work experience students on observational placements.

This is a 25 hours per week maternity leave relief position until 27 June 2021 with the possibility of extension at same / reduced hours. An eligibility list will be created for future Temporary Part-Time positions.

Selection Criteria

  • Relevant undergraduate degree with post graduate qualification in genetic counselling or have attained Part I certification/ Board Eligible to Undertake Certification in genetic counselling from the Human Genetics Society of Australasia.
  • Ability to provide a professional level of service whilst working under professional supervision in the Hereditary Cancer Clinic.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgement commensurate with years of experience.
  • Demonstrated participation in quality and workplace education, as well as a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy with experience with database, presentation and pedigree drawing software.
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication.
  • Demonstrated commitment, ability to meet deadlines and high standards of performance.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the application of evidence based practice to Genetic Counselling.
