Where you'll be working 
You will be working with the diverse and dynamic Respiratory and Biopreparedness team within Health Protection NSW (HPNSW). HPNSW works closely with public health units in local health districts in the development, implementation and evaluation activities to protect public health.

What you'll be doing 
You will develop and implement processes and procedures for state-wide surveillance of measles, invasive meningococcal disease, pertussis, and other vaccine-preventable diseases in NSW. The role involves developing policy for the public health response to individual cases and outbreaks, and providing epidemiological advice to support the implementation of immunisation legislation reforms in NSW. The Epidemiologist, Vaccine-Preventable Diseases will be located within Health Protection NSW.

Selection Criteria

  1. Post graduate qualifications in public health and relevant experience.
  2. Extensive experience in communicable diseases epidemiology, biostatistical methods and surveillance methods, and competence in the use of SAS or similar statistical packages.
  3. Extensive experience with maintaining databases and undertaking data quality activities.
  4. Demonstrated ability to prepare and analyse data using appropriate statistical methods, and prepare high quality epidemiological reports.
  5. High-level oral and written communication skills with demonstrated effective report writing skills.
  6. Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills and experience in working effectively with stakeholders with competing priorities to achieve mutual outcomes.
  7. High-level conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex information rapidly and accurately.
  8. Good time management and organisational skills and capacity to deliver high quality products within agreed timeframes.
