Your new company
This government department are seeking an Operational Safety Officer to join their busy team based centrally on the Gold Coast.

Your new role
Responsibilities and duties will see you support and assist with the coordination of WHS projects, programs and services through corporate risk, and cooperation in WHS initiatives with Safety Officers in the department and provide WHS support, guidance and information to staff.

  • Support and assist with the development, implementation and monitoring of the WHS Management Plan
  • Management System across the Directorate in accordance with the National Self Insurance OHS Audit Tool (NAT), the International Standard for Occupational Health and Safety ISOI 8001
  • Assist in defining, developing and implementing a safety compliance framework
  • Support and assist in coordinating the periodic management review and regular auditing of the integrated management system with a specific focus on WHS components
  • Identify WHS training and development needs and facilitate WHS training as required
  • Develop monthly WHS reports and provide advice to the management team in relation to operational matters to ensure that Workplace Health and Safety compliance
  • Assist and support the Coordinator Operational Safety with incident related tasks as required

What you'll need to succeed
Extensive knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 and how an organisation can develop, implement and demonstrate compliance with ISOI 8001. Proven ability to develop, implement and improve Workplace Health and Safety Management Systems

  • Ability to structure, engage and present information clearly and interestingly to various audiences
  • Deliver high quality service to customers (internal / external) and understand and react responsively to customer expectations
  • Ability to appropriately prioritise problems, gather and analyse the right information to identify symptoms and causes and identify the right people to involve to reach better conclusions
  • A high level of ability in building relationships and credibility with internal and external stakeholders
  • Prepare WHS reports, presentations and correspondence with clear recommendations
  • Demonstrated experience in assisting with the audit of an integrated management system, or a component of an integrated management system such as Work Health and Safety
  • Diploma in Work Health and Safety or Equivalent Knowledge
  • WHS Licence General Construction White Card
  • Diploma in Quality Auditing or Equivalent Knowledge (Desired)
