About the team

The Visual Analytics team works with researchers, analysts and data specialists to ensure their work is visually powerful, accessible and authoritative. They play an integral role in high profile publications such as the Resources and Energy Quarterly, and ensure the work of the Analysis and Insights Division is compelling and visually appealing.

Our ideal candidate

Our ideal candidate will have a strong portfolio demonstrating versatility across print publications and online products. They will have:

  • experience leading and managing a small team
  • the ability to maintain strong collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders
  • a proven ability to translate complex information into a visually accessible and compelling form
  • expertise in Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop
  • the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • experience with social media management.
What you will do

The Visual Analytics lead works with researchers, analysts and data specialists to ensure their work is visually powerful, accessible and authoritative.

You will provide leadership within the team including:
  • Strategic leadership to ensure the work of the VA team has impact that aligns with the broader goals of division and department
  • Develop procedures for timely delivery of output to a high standard
  • Maintain productive working relationships with client areas and promote the work of the VA team across the organisation.
You will also work alongside analysts to produce data visualisations, presentations, social media material and other products. These outputs play an important role in delivering robust and high quality economic advice that informs policy across industry, innovation, science and resources.


Bachelor's degree in design field or 5+ year's work experience is required.

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.

Security Clearance

These positions require a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.


This job is being used to fill an immediate EL 1 vacancy. A merit pool may be established and used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies.
