About the role:
The Strategic Communications team is responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating Victoria Legal Aid's (VLA) communications strategies and activities in support of VLA's strategic objectives. Its purpose is to effectively communicate VLA's public value and role to the community and our stakeholders, and oversee internal communications activities.

In this role, you will manage and develop a small team of Communications Advisors to deliver effective staff and stakeholder engagement, and communications strategies and activities in support of our strategic objectives. You will also work on high profile media coverage in a politically sensitive environment. In collaboration with the Associate Director, Strategic Communications and other senior staff across the organisation you will develop communications strategies to support the organisation's service delivery, strategic advocacy and corporate functions.

This is an excellent opportunity for a professional with the relevant experience looking to progress their career and/or gain further management experience within a dynamic team in a forward thinking organisation.

About you:
We are seeking a high performing professional with experience in stakeholder engagement, strategic advocacy and integrated internal and external communications strategies ideally gained in the social, not for profit, government and/or legal sectors. You will have extensive experience in proactive and reactive media engagement with a strong track record in responsiveness and issues management gained in a similar setting.

You will have strong conceptual and project management skills and the ability to manage complex issues promptly. You will demonstrate excellent judgement, discretion, sensitivity and political nous in being able to provide reputable advice to senior staff.

To be successful in this role you will draw upon your leadership capabilities, interpersonal skills and experience in managing a team of staff and building collaborative relationships.
