Primary objective

Provide service and advice regarding land management/nature conservation and visitor management issues on parks or reserves

to achieve the aims and objectives of approved management plans. Assist with the training and mentoring of less experience

staff, volunteers and trainees.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Assist with and/or implement approved nature conservation programs under the direction of the Senior Ranger in accordance

with the organisation’s objectives of conserving natural resources.

2. Assist with and/or implement approved joint management programs and liaise with traditional owners.

3. Contribute to the maintenance of relationships with joint management partners.

4. Assist with the implementation of approved visitor management programs under the direction of the Senior Ranger in

accordance with the organisation’s objective to ensure public safety and quality visitor experiences.

5. Undertake search and rescue and first aid in accordance with procedures of the Emergency Response Manual.

6. Exercise delegated powers under the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1976 and other relevant legislation

appropriate to the level of training and qualifications, to ensure that activities within park estate abide by the legislation and

the respective Plans of Management.

Selection criteria


1. A relevant qualification awarded by an Australian institution, or equivalent; or significant relevant experience in a field of

technical work closely related to the duties of the vacancy.

2. Current “C” class drivers licence and First Aid Certificate, or ability to obtain.

3. Knowledge and understanding of contemporary natural resource management techniques.

4. Knowledge and understanding of human resource, equal employment opportunity and work health safety issues, including as

they apply to remote localities.

5. Knowledge and understanding of interpretive programs.

6. Sound knowledge of the role of a ranger together with a good understanding of land and wildlife management, general

monitoring techniques and conservation principles.

7. Understanding and knowledge of procedures associated with administering first aid, specifically in remote localities.

8. Understanding of the issues associated with the pastoral and tourism industries.

9. Understanding of contemporary Aboriginal culture and the aspiration of Aboriginal people.


1. Sound knowledge of vehicle, plant and equipment operation and maintenance.
