About us

At Transport, we’re passionate about making NSW a better place to live, work and visit. Our vision is to give everyone the freedom to choose how and when they get around, no matter where they live. Right now, we’re delivering a $72.2bn program – the largest Australia has ever seen – to keep people and goods moving, connect communities and shape the future of our cities, centres and regions. At Transport, we’re also committed to creating a diverse, inclusive and flexible workforce, reflecting the community and the customers we serve.

Transport for NSW comprises nine integrated divisions that focus on achieving community outcomes for the greater good and putting our customers at the centre and our people at the heart of everything we do.

About the team

Sydney Metro is leading Australia’s biggest public transport infrastructure program, developing and delivering a new world-class metro railway system for Sydney.

As a new NSW Government statutory authority, Sydney Metro has been tasked with developing and delivering metro railways, and managing their operations. Sydney Metro also leads the development of vibrant station precincts to meet customer and community needs, transforming the way Sydney travels and helping shape the future of Australia’s largest city.

The opportunity

Right now, we have an exciting opportunity a Commercial Director to oversee the commercial management of the Line-wide contract with a major contractor. This is an incentivised target cost (ITC) contract for the design and construction of the Line-wide Work to convert the tunnel into a working railway for Sydney Metro City & Southwest.

The Line-wide package of works is a critical component of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest project, providing rail infrastructure and rail systems. The scope of the works include fitout of the new 15.5km tunnels including track and tunnel services, tunnel ventilation systems, high voltage and traction power supply, fit out of the line-wide equipment to the new underground stations, Sydney Metro Trains depot expansion works, construction of the Sydney Metro Trains Facility South and Northern Connection Works at Chatswood.

The Commercial Director is responsible for all commercial and contract management of the ITC contract, supported by a team of senior commercial managers and contract administrators.

The role will include but not limited to:

  • Provide strategic advice on all commercial matters, and in relation to contract negotiations.
  • Maintain the commercial integrity of the project by ensuring all contracts accurately capture client requirements, are acceptable to market, result in commercially sound outcomes for the government and are awarded on time to meet overall program objectives
  • Lead the delivery of projects and post implementation reviews to ensure benefits realisation and understand lessons to be learned
  • Manage dispute avoidance and commercial resolution, ensuring alignment with organisational resolution strategies and best practice
  • Establish common approaches in contract administration and extract relevant information from project teams, to inform a whole-of-project commercial position
  • Lead the management of contractors and service providers, providing procurement, commercial and financial advice during the development, procurement and delivery phase
