Department of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering

12-month casual appointment
Salary range: Level 3, Step 1, $29.85 per hour plus 25% loading plus 9.5% superannuation

About the opportunity

This opportunity is for a casual project assistant to provide IT support and website development and maintenance for mining research projects including the Future Tails research project. In addition, the successful candidate will apply data mining, filtering and processing techniques to data sourced from monitoring equipment on mine sites. The University of Western Australia has launched the Future Tails initiative which will position Australia as a global leader in tailings management thinking, training, research, education and practice - working towards a global vision of a future with zero catastrophic mining tailings storage facility failures. The initiative is jointly funded by industry majors Rio Tinto and BHP.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:
Skills in data analytics including knowledge of Tableau, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Python and R Programming
Experience in full-stack web development with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and MongoDB
Evidence of having created webpages that have been adopted by either a UWA research group and/or an industry partner
Evidence of the development of standardised Internet of Things (IoT) protocols to produce outcomes such as dashboards or accelerated testing procedures for proposed field trials
Proven ability to collaborate with, and provide assistance to students and staff, both academic and professional
Ability to work independently
