About the role

The Caseworker will work across both functions which are the the Multicultural Foster Care Program where support will be provided to CALD children, young people, foster carers and families which will be consistent with SSI model and internal policies with permanency care plan goals, which include restoration, guardianship, adoption and long term care needs and the Gambling Prevention Program where you will provide CALD communities with much needed in-language information on gambling ha rm and interventions including therapeutic

The Caseworker will be responsible for:

  • Liaise with Community Services, in relation to referrals and reportable activity as per OOHC policies and procedures and match children and young people with foster carer as per Multicultural Model.
  • Liaise with the foster care recruitment to monitor issues raised through the carer experience.
  • Undertake case work including assessments, planning placements, monitoring and reviews.
  • To develop and review Case Plans as per policies and procedures and to ensure the views and wishes of children and young people are considered.
  • Comply with SSI and with OOHC Policies and procedures in general and with OOHC as well as with SSI Staff responsibilities.
  • Conduct Assessment, interview children and respond to allegations against carer’s assessment and liaise with relevant departments in relation to child abuse in care.
  • Make referrals and engage with support services.



You are passionate Case Worker -MCFS, OOHC or child protection and experienced in providing casework support to children, young people, foster carers and their birth families within the Multicultural Child & Family Support Program; the aim is to achieve permanency care outcomes.

  • Tertiary degree or diploma (Human Services, Psychology or Social Work, Welfare;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in CALD communities; experience in the field of casework, OOHC and/or child protection;
  • A Well-developed analytical and organisational skill as well as excellent written and oral communication skills is essential;
  • Computer literate with well-developed MS Office skills are essential;
  • A valid Driver’s Licence;
  • Bilingual language skills, with an ability to speak, read and write in English and at least one community language from India, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Sudan, Turkey, Somalia, Iraq, Syria – Assyrian, Chaldean, Sri Lanka – Tamil or Pasifika is essential.

It would be advantageous but not mandatory if you have previously worked with Family and Community Services experienced as a foster care assessor and/or trainer.

Successful candidates will be required to travel across the Melbourne metropolitan area and some regional (if applicable) areas; and maintain flexible hours (including evenings) to be able to attend required meetings/sessions.
