Job Description

The BHP Iron Ore Rail Operation’s team are thinking big for the future of Heavy Haul Train Driving in WA. A unique opportunity has arisen for a forward thinking and effective influencer with proven experience in Rail Crew Officer within the rail, mining or resources industry and a passion for continuous improvement.

This role will be based in Port Hedland on a FIFO 7 night shifts then 7 day shifts then 14 days off roster.

Reporting to the Logistics and Rail Safety Lead as a Rail Crew Officer, your core accountabilities will be to:

Ensure that rosters are prepared in the most efficient manner and are in line with the rostering principles.
Maintain crew efficiencies through proactive rostering practices
An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable Crew Scheduling
Single point of accountability for management for Rail Operations Crewing levels for stakeholders across supply chain
Effectively monitor and implement training plans and maintain qualification compliance
Deliver effectively, communication across Rail Ops for Crewing solutions
Consistently roster within BHP Fatigue guidelines
Complete Weekly Schedule Checklists
Fortnightly and Monthly Panel Auditing
Maintain medical compliance
Planning for crew optimisation by identifying shortages that will inhibit operational requirements

Dynamic (Day to Day) may include not limited to:
Creation and distribution of the Daily Job List
Record Unplanned Absences
Manage KPI Reporting
Allocation and approval of Leave types
Monitor and maintain Panel and Depot Balancing
Develop and deliver planned crew management solutions to meet operational demands
Import, audit and prepare rosters three months in advance
Deliver all reporting for Rail Operations
Review and audit all relevant registers including Medicals, DIL, Contractor and Leave registers
Preference Leave Allocations for assigned FIFO & Residential Panels

About You

As a proactive team player with the ability to deal with both strategic and technical issues you will work well with a broad cross section of stakeholders, will provide effective and efficient rosters for employees at numerous locations that ensures compliance to the Crew Management Guidelines and Principles, Fatigue Management Policy and crew availability for all crews.

You may also have experience across the following:
Proven ability to effectively communicate requirements, challenges, and options to stakeholders.
Ability to manage crewing and changes to meet daily Operational challenges
A friendly and collaborative approach to colleagues and customers.
Committed and reliable, keeping up with training, whilst fulfilling operational requirements
Proactive mindset with the ability to work in a team and autonomously
Proficiency across, but not limited to, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Word and Excel as well as MS Teams.
Managing work effectively to a quality standard
Be able to make sound decisions under pressure in accordance with BHP values
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Current full West Australian “C” class motor vehicle license or current equivalent Australian
