Full Time, Fixed Term role for 6 months (secondment backfill)
About us
The Metropolitan Remand Centre (MRC) is a maximum-security remand facility based in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne. Prisoners on remand are alleged offenders who were not bailed when charged with a crime and are awaiting the outcome of their court case.
The MRC is a 954-bed maximum-security facility for unsentenced male offenders located within the West Metropolitan Region, Department of Justice and Community Safety.
The Offender Services team plays a crucial role within the MRC by assisting with prisoner welfare services, referrals, personal development programs and through-care services for this short-term, transient population. These officers take on responsibility for small projects as well as day-to-day welfare and program delivery and carry a range of portfolios which reflect the diverse nature of prisoner needs and issues.
About the role
As a Justice Officer – Offender Services, you will be responsible for:

* working within a multidisciplinary team to contribute to the holistic management of prisoners at the MRC, including supporting community transition, monitoring and encouraging program involvement and contributing to community referral for post release issues
* under direction, providing individual assessments and referrals which are responsive to individual prisoner needs
* under direction, facilitating group prisoner orientation sessions and information sessions
* acting as a key point of contact for prisoners and Unit staff in relation to prisoner welfare and program matters.

This position requires direct prisoner contact and may involve weekend and public holiday work, remunerated in accordance with the applicable provision of the VPS Determination.
About you
As a Justice Officer – Offender Services, you will possess:

* demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
* experience in or understanding of working within a Correctional environment
* experience in providing high quality service excellence focusing on client satisfaction and maintaining service quality.

Keys to your success will be highly developed communication, problem solving and presentation skills including the ability to liaise and build rapport with other members of the Offender Services team.
