About the project

We are the Managing Contractor for the Guided Missile Destroyer (DDG) sustainment program, one of the most complex warship programs in Australia. Highly collaborative and agile, the program boasts of an engaging, consultative and solutions focused approach.

About the Opportunity

A new opportunity has now arisen for a seasoned engineer to support one of our key maritime programs at our Garden Island site in Sydney.

This role will see you providing technical, project leadership and guidance to the Combat Systems functions within the DDG System Program Office (SPO) Combat Systems Portfolio. You will be part of the talented team responsible for ensuring the ongoing technical integrity of the Hobart Class DDG Combat Systems. Particularly you will ensure updates and upgrades to the DDG Combat Systems are completed in accordance with Navy's technical assurance framework and within schedule and budget constraints.

This role is a great mix of technical, project-based multiple stakeholder management accountabilities, where you will autonomously undertake engineering activities liaising with the broader Combat System portfolio, the Platform Systems Portfolio and the DDGSPO Configuration Management and Support functions ensuring cross-organisational collaboration and engagement.

In more specific terms, you will:

  • Oversee the development, incorporation verification and validation of Combat Systems configuration changes on the Hobart Class DDGs;
  • Provide engineering advice and review Combat Systems engineering work within delegated technical authority
  • Develop task plans (technical scope, cost and schedule) for Combat Systems projects/tasks
  • Manage Combat Systems engineering tasks in accordance with budget, schedule and priority providing regular status information to the relevant stakeholders and project authorities as required
  • Take responsibility for contributing to team planning, risk management, quality and Occupational Health Safety and Environment
  • Develop alternative concepts to Combat Systems problems
  • Undertake the review of design artefacts developed by members of the Enterprise or by recognised members of the DDG Technical Support Network
  • Manage Combat Systems related engineering studies, evaluations and test & trials for the maintenance of ship Combat Systems Cyber Security, Cyber Vulnerability and Internet Protocol/Firewall management logs
  • Meet the requirements to achieve technical delegation under the DDG Class Authorised Engineering Organisation
  • Attend/Conduct project meetings, design reviews and peer reviews as required
  • Ensure completion, review and management of all documents, artefacts generated by the Combat team, in accordance with the DDGSPO Engineering Management System, appropriate standard procedures and the defined work instructions
  • Enable and manage the development of Combat System Engineering Changes and associated scopes of work

About you

As an ideal applicant for this opportunity, you'll have:

  • Experience in a number of the following areas:
    • Combat system integration
    • Systems engineering (specification and requirements development)
    • Familiarity with Combat Systems industry standards and current maritime Combat Systems design practices and standards
    • Combat Systems sustainment, maintenance and design
    • AEGIS Weapons System (AWS)
    • Hobart Class Combat Systems (HCCS) Architecture
    • Cyber Security or Vulnerability Assessment
    • Electromagnetic Interference/Compatibility (EMI/C) solutions and compliance
    • Radio Frequency (RF)/Radiation Hazards (RADHAZ) engineering
    • Materials, parts and process selection
    • Environmental and ruggedised design and qualification
    • Supportability engineering including the development and remediation of system Integrated Logistics Support artefacts
  • Electrical, Electronic or Mechatronic Engineering degree qualification which meets the requirements for membership of the Institute of Engineers Australia
  • Current or eligibility to apply for Chartered Professional Engineer accreditation through the Institute of Engineers Australia
