The role is responsible for the coordination of injury management services for workers with non-work related injuries and health conditions with the goal of achieving a timely, efficient and sustainable return to work.

The role will coordinate and implement recover at work policies, procedures and programs to facilitate the recovery of injured staff from non-work related injury. This key role will provide technical advice and apply best practice interventions in case management to minimise lost working time and support business objectives. Other recover at work and workplace safety related duties as directed by the Manager Recover at Work or Director Safety and Recovery.

It is the responsibility of all staff to ensure the workplace free from bullying and harassment.

All staff must behave in a respectful and acceptable manner.

Staff must report and respond appropriately to any instances or perceptions of bullying.

Managers are required to implement actions that prevent or minimise the risk of unacceptable behaviours, ensuring bullying, harassment and victimisation are identified as early as possible and responded to and effectively managed.

  • Develop, co-ordinate and implement workplace policies, procedures and Recover at Work programs to facilitate the recovery and subsequent return to work of injured employees with claims ensuring maintenance of best practice in recover at work services.
  • Maintain regular contact with recovering employees and ensure employees are aware of their legislative entitlements and responsibilities in relation to Recover at Work programs.
  • Manage, monitor and report on key performance indicators and regularly review and report on the quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Review outstanding cases on a fortnightly and monthly basis, and participate in reviews with relevant line managers.
  • Maintain a Recover at Work database to ensure all relevant documentation relating to an non work related injured employee is up to date, correct and their privacy is maintained. This includes extracting relevant information from the database to provide accurate information on case management and claim status as required.
  • Assist in promoting recovery at work to managers and supervisors and attend sector, division and unit meetings where required.
  • Other Recover at Work and Workplace Safety related duties as directed by the Manager Recover at Work or Director Safety &Recovery.
  • The incumbent must be able to work as part of a team and network co-operatively with unions, management and staff at all organisational levels to achieve measurable outcomes. The incumbent must proactively manage Recover at Work programs and Return to Work Plans whilst remaining conversant with all aspects of work, health and safety and worker's compensation to ensure best practice case management.
  • The position is challenged by the need to provide cost effective solutions in a complex, decentralised and ever changing work environment.
1. Sound knowledge of policies relating to the management of non-work related injuries or health conditions, and awareness of the various Awards.

2. Proven understanding and experience in case management practices and principles.

3. Demonstrated experience in developing and coordinating recover at work policies, procedures, programs and interventions for managing non-work related injuries or health conditions.

4. Effective written and oral communication skills, including negotiation and presentation skills.

5. Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team providing an integrated WHS, workers compensation and recover at work service

6. Qualifications or related experience in, or knowledge of allied health initiatives in relation to injury management and return to work, including SafeWork accreditation as a Return to Work Coordinator.

7. Ability to use information technology for recover at work case management and review including a high degree of initiative, flexibility and congeniality in a high volume work environment and proven analytical and problem solving skills.
