About the opportunity

Looking for challenges but also an exciting career? We have a permanent opportunity for a suitably experienced Senior Chemical Engineer - a key member of the wider Technical Department based at Pinjarra Refinery. You will be responsible for the technical operation of up to half the Refinery some days, as well as leading other technical personnel in our business!

We want you to drive medium and long-term improvement in the operating efficiency of the Refinery process; to enable improvements in product quality and across Environmental Health & Safety aspects, upgrading of plant capacity and reduction in operating costs.

Your main responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring strategies are in place to optimise production and raw material usage, contribution to monthly production forecasting, reporting weekly performance and lead plant-wide process improvement activities.
  • Prudent commitment of capital by developing and regularly updating production upgrade plans and cost reduction plans;
  • Consistently improving technical efficiencies in the refinery through best practice application and daily management processes;
  • Contributing to the expansion of production capability and improved technical operations by process problem-solving and plant trials;
  • Developing the Area Chemical Engineers by coaching, mentoring and coordinating short-term project groups and associated training and achievement.
About you

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:
  • A tertiary qualification in Chemical Engineering, with an in-depth understanding of the complexity of the total process, the inter-relationships of the various process parameters, the chemistry and the dynamics of the Bayer process.
  • Ability to conceptually solve process problems by translating technically correct solutions into workable options for implementation,
  • Familiarisation with cost-benefit analysis, and the impact of external marketing factors on direction of technical development work.
  • Well-developed communication skills to deliver messages at all levels, develop people, and maintain process management systems.
  • A demonstrated dedication to fostering a positive Environment, Health and Safety culture!
