The Role

As part of IAG, Ambiata is a data science services company with a focus on customer understanding through deep integration of experimentation with machine learning, and a vision to expand the use of ethical approaches to AI in Australian companies.

The purpose of this role is to lead the engineering team to produce a great product that enables us to deliver our services effectively and allows our clients to obtain the best results from data science. You will do this by shaping the product through active contribution in product conversations and by providing a strong technical voice in product development processes to achieve sound product/technical trade-offs. 

What you’ll do:

As Ambiata’s Product Engineering Manager, your responsibilities will include: 

  • Translating Ambiata’s product strategy into a product roadmap, a product backlog and detailed engineering requirements. 
  • Leading the determination and delivery of the agreed product features with a focus on Return on Investment.
  • Determination and mitigation of technical constraints, resources and opportunities associated with Product Engineering. 
  • Working cross-functionally across the business including designers, product managers, data scientists, marketing, and business development to deliver a good product. 
  • Maintaining high quality standards in engineering practice, especially testing, continuous integration and delivery, and end-user acceptance. 
  • Being creative in utilising technical opportunities that can improve Ambiata’s products and engineering practices.
  • Leading the Product Engineering team to deliver with quick time-to-market, deployment of optimal resources, including scoping and prioritising activities based on business and customer impact. 

What you can bring to the role:

  • Deep working technical knowledge of the following technologies, applications and practices. 
  • Software development best practices, including experience with performance tuning, various testing approaches and frameworks.
  • Significant experience and expertise in Python and Linux based systems. 
  • Comprehensive understanding of and experience with data systems, including major architectural principals for building solutions from diverse components. 
  • Cloud services, particularly AWS.
  • CI/CD deployment tools and processes.
  • Agile software development and experience with development of microservice architectures.
  • Strong data and application security knowledge and skills e.g. ISO 27001, NIST or OWASP.
  • Proven track record of leading and managing a highly capable data or product engineering team, demonstrating creative problem-solving ability.
  • Experience in one of the following industry sectors would be desirable; Financial Services, Government, Retail, Telco and Digital Advertising – desirable.
