The Role
An EL1 Assistant Director will exercise a considerable degree of independence and perform a subject matter expert role. They will exercise sound decision making and judgement to provide expert policy advice. They will have in-depth knowledge of the stakeholder management function and are responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to their work within that function. They will engage in very complex problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for Defence. An EL1 Assistant Director may be a team coach or lead an administrative team and will be accountable for the outcomes of the teams work and the appropriate use of resources to produce and achieve outcomes. They are expected to be capable of building team capability through coaching and feedback and reviewing and developing the quality of work undertaken by others within a work unit. They may exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve work unit outcomes. An EL1 Assistant Director will be responsible for actively managing key stakeholder relationships and will be required to identify relevant stakeholders_ expectations and concerns to develop and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development of their work area. Please note, a merit pool will be established to fill future vacancies within the Branch.

About our Team
The Ministerial and Parliamentary Branch provides support to the Defence Ministerial Offices in fulfilling their portfolio responsibilities to the Parliament, Senate Estimates, Cabinet and the public. The Branch provides support, advice and information to the Defence Senior Leadership and broader department on all ministerial and parliamentary processes.

The Ministerial and Parliamentary Branch is made up of five teams:

Ministerial and Executive Services partners with internal and external customers and stakeholders to deliver effective and timely Ministerial and Executive services, training and support.
Parliamentary and Ministerial Management Team facilitates the workflow of items between the Department and Ministerial offices. The team provides quality assurance to ensure items are of the highest quality and standard.
Senate Estimates Team supports the Departments’ appearance at Senate Estimates by compiling briefs, managing Questions on Notice and supporting witnesses at the hearings.
Associate Secretary Coordination Team provides ministerial and parliamentary support and general coordination assistance for line areas and executive within the Associate Secretary Group.
Cabinet Liaison Services liaises across the Department to progress Defence’s Cabinet submissions and review external agency submissions that relate to or may have implications for Defence.
