The COVID-19 Airport Screening is a nurse lead multidisciplinary partnership that undertakes COVID-19 screening and assessment of departing and returning passengers, pilots, crew and others as determined by screening requirements.

The Enrolled Nurse (EN) delivers high quality assessments, education and support to clients presenting for COVID-19 screening at Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport consistent with SESLHD policies, procedures and standards. The location within the Airport in which screening is undertaken varies pending allocation of flights including freight. Screening may be required to be completed within the Terminal building, on the tarmac and/or within planes in accordance with required Work, Health and Safety procedures and Kingsford Smith International Airport policy.

The EN works under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse, and assists in the provision of nursing care. Enrolled Nurses retain responsibility for their personal actions whilst remaining accountable to the Registered Nurse for delegated functions.

All ENs must comply and act in accordance with recognised professional and organisational standards established by:

  • NSW Health
  • Nurses and Midwives Board of Australia
  • South Eastern Sydney Local Health District
Clinical supervision at the point of care is the role and responsibility of each Registered Nurse/Midwife and EN within everyday clinical practice, in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Decision Making Frameworks for Nurses and Midwives.

Selection Criteria * Current registration as an Enrolled Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
  • Holds a Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia approved qualification in medicines administration
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, carers, other care providers, hospital clinicians, immediate team members and other stakeholders
  • Supports working in a person centred environment
  • Current professional practice knowledge base
  • Basic computer skills and proven ability to use health information systems
  • Knowledge and understanding of risk management, safety and quality principles and the role of the Enrolled Nurse in applying these principles.
  • Demonstrated post registration experience in an acute care setting.
