About the role:

UnitingCare has recently embarked on a new and exciting corporate renewal, which is creating a stronger business model to deliver the organisation’s long-term strategy. This corporate transformation is delivering on a single vision with a united voice, stronger partnerships, and the ability to make an even greater impact on the people and communities they serve.

Reporting to the UnitingCare Queensland CEO, the Director of Corporate Affairs and Marketing is a senior management role with Enterprise-wide responsibility for the strategic positioning, management, and promotion of the organisation’s brands and enhancement of their reputation amongst external and internal stakeholders critical to the achievement of UnitingCare’s 10-year 2030 vision.

This senior role leads a 30+ person team comprising management and specialist-level staff across all disciplines of customer research and insights, mainstream and digital marketing and advertising, media relations, issues and crisis communications, community relations, external advocacy, government relations, and internal employee/volunteer communications (including change communications).

The Director of Corporate Affairs and Marketing is responsible for maintaining a strong in-market presence and share of voice for each of UnitingCare Queensland’s customer-facing brands and ensuring strong brand consideration versus competitors.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the strategic direction and oversight of the Corporate Affairs and Marketing Function’s development of compelling strategic brand and direct response marketing and communications campaigns to drive increased year on year market share and customer uptake of UnitingCare’s products and services. You will also be responsible for driving awareness and advocacy of UnitingCare, its brands, and the people UnitingCare serves, amongst key external stakeholder groups including policy makers, peak bodies, and industry groups.

Internally, you will set the strategic direction and maintain oversight of the organisation’s internal communications strategy, digital employee communication platforms, and internal communications narrative and activities that ensure all employees are informed, engaged, and motivated to achieve the organisation’s objectives and long-term strategic vision.

Specifically, key accountabilities include:

  • As a member of the SLT, take responsibility for key management decisions to ensure the effective operations of UnitingCare
  • Strategic management of the UnitingCare Corporate Affairs and Marketing Function
  • Development and management of the organisation’s integrated Corporate Affairs and Marketing strategy
  • Strategic direction and oversight all Media and External Stakeholder Communications activities to protect and enhance the reputation and in-marketing standing of UnitingCare and its suite of brands amongst external stakeholders
  • Ensuring full integration between all marketing, communications, and advocacy activities across UnitingCare and its suite of brands
  • Implementing significant cultural and business changes across the organisation, driving improved processes and procedures that ensure the operation of successful services that drive business goals.
  • Strategic direction and oversight of the organisation’s internal communications strategy, digital platforms, and activities that support the People and Culture Function’s objective of ensuring all employees are informed, engaged, and motivated to achieve the organisation’s objectives
  • Developing and maintaining favourable long-term relationships and dialogue with senior stakeholders in Government (federal, state, local), peak bodies, and media
  • Ensuring alignment with UnitingCare’s cultural intent, values and strategic priorities.
  • Balance the missional imperatives of the Uniting Church with the commercial imperatives of operating a large, not for profit health and community services provider
The Person:

To be considered for the position, you will be an exceptional people leader who can demonstrate extensive experience and a record of achievement as a senior leader leading a Corporate Affairs & Marketing function in a large and complex business.

You will need to bring extensive in leading medium-sized in-house marketing and communications teams, and a demonstrated passion for integrating the full suite of marketing, communications, and advocacy disciplines to achieve strategic organisational objectives and delivering tangible commercial outcomes. Your ability to engage others and embrace organisational change with a client service ethos is critical.

You will have significant experience in proactively anticipating and directly managing media and stakeholder engagement issues and crisis situations and developing communications and engagement strategies to mitigate these situations so as to protect and enhance the reputation of the organisation and its brands.

You will also bring a demonstrated ability to lead and motivate high performing marketing and communications teams to deliver key business outcomes, whilst working collaboratively with senior leaders of the business to unite UnitingCare behind a shared vison.
