Parliamentary Catering Services is a service area within the Property and Facility Services division of Queensland Parliament House. Parliamentary Catering Services provides innovative and cost-effective catering services for Members of Parliament, official guests, staff of the Parliamentary Service and approved guests. The Parliamentary complex has a range of dining and function facilities which are used extensively throughout the year. Food and beverage services are delivered via a range of dedicated dining, bar and function facilities in venues within the Parliamentary precinct. Catering Services operates in a semi-commercial environment within the public sector.

The Parliamentary Service is seeking applications for an experienced Manager to lead the operations of Parliamentary Catering Services in an efficient and effective manner. The successful candidate will report to the Director of Property and Facility Services.

They will possess excellent "front of house skills" and the ability to work with a variety of dining and function outlets within the Parliamentary Precinct to ensure the consistent delivery of quality services.

Along with the prestige of this position comes significant responsibility to meet the discerning needs of Parliamentary guests, visiting dignitaries, and government departments.

The occupant of the position will be required to work irregular hours including outside of normal business hours, weekends, and public holidays. Whilst the requirement to work weekends and public holidays is uncommon, the occupant of the position may be required to work longer than normal hours on parliamentary sitting weeks (approximately 16 sitting weeks a year) and on evenings when there are significant functions.

Skills & Experience

To secure this position, the suitable candidate will possess the following:

  • Demonstrated experience in food and beverage management (functions/events and fine dining) within a service-oriented catering establishment.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills encompassing liaison, consultation, negotiation, and conflict resolution with members of a work unit, management, external entities, and clients.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including the ability to plan, allocate resources, establish, and communicate priorities, evaluate performance and training and development needs and report to senior management.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, Outlook) and sound knowledge of the operation and use of computerised catering management systems such as booking, point of sale (POS) and billing systems.
  • Possession of an appropriate tertiary qualification in Tourism/Hospitality is highly desirable, but not essential.

  • financial and other goals and targets identified in the management plan are met;
  • compliance with established administrative and legislative requirements; and
  • a high level of quality control.
  • Ensure performance reviews are conducted and prepare an annual training and development plan for all staff to ensure staff morale, client satisfaction and competent performance.
