Working collaboratively with the Victorian Government and the D&C Contractor - CPB John Holland Joint Venture, Transurban is delivering the $6.7 billion West Gate Tunnel Project. It will provide drivers with a much-needed alternative to the West Gate Bridge and additional lanes and smart technology on Melbourne's critical M1 corridor.

The Project Engineer is responsible for the management and delivery of the construction of a designated section of works within the Port and City Access section of the Project involving the construction of complex steel and concrete structures that will provide much needed connections to the Port of Melbourne, CityLink and North Melbourne.

There are three main objectives of the role:

  • Assist the project team in the administering of the D&C contract.
  • Aid the D&C Contractor by facilitating and resolving issues in a timely manner.
  • Aim to influence the D&C Contractor in order to achieve best for project outcomes.

The impact you'll have:

  • Be involved in all aspects of project delivery, from HSE performance, program & cost review, quality performance, to contract administration, completion management and stakeholder interface.
  • Use your experience gained on previous projects to collaborate internally in Transurban and externally with the D&C Contractor, IREA and State parties to identify risks & issues and resolve in a timely manner.
  • Contribute with key stakeholder management in relation to project implementation. Examples of significant stakeholders are the State, IREA, D&C Subcontractor, Councils and other key interested and impacted stakeholders.
  • You'll be essential in the successful delivery of a landmark project that will reshape Melbourne
  • You'll monitor safety, construction methodology, quality and environmental practices. With strong attention to detail you will understand complex engineering specifications and drawings, with the ability to review construction methodologies and improve processes on site.
  • Timely and accurate reporting takes place throughout the project.
  • Think and act innovatively and resourcefully, anticipate opportunities for improvement, challenge traditional assumptions and solve problems creatively.

The talents you'll bring:

  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and make well informed project decisions using your experience gained from previous projects.
  • Understanding of the proper administration of construction and/or civil engineering contracts.
  • A wealth of experience in all functions of civil engineering, gained through working in construction or engineering environments.
  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering degree or similar discipline, paired with significant work experience on road or infrastructure projects is highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated project management knowledge and experience.
  • Experience in projects with large and complex steel and concrete structures would be considered an advantage.
  • Any experience and knowledge in projects that interface with rail would be beneficial.
  • An understanding of quality management, VicRoads Specifications and the completion process.
  • Sound communication skills, including verbal communication skills, report writing and the preparation of concise reports.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, working with a team of internal and contract Project Managers and Engineers. You'll have the ability to build and sustain relationships, obtain cooperation and develop collaborative working relationships.
