About the opportunity

The Research Support and Administration Officer provides professional support to academics, medical students, and clinical educators to achieve their research objectives and to help develop the research program in line with the University Centre of Rural Health (UCRH) and Faculty strategic directions and contractual obligations.

The role supports the development and effective management of the UCRH research program, including planning, funding, and delivery of research to meet the UCRH research objectives. The Research Support and Administration Officer provides high level administrative support and plays an active role in the development of research projects, developing and managing project budgets and contractual obligations, business reporting, record keeping and overall program coordination for the research team. This role coordinates a range of reporting requirements relevant to the area and actively contributes to continuous improvement initiatives across the UCRH.

About you

  • tertiary qualifications with directly relevant work experience; and/or equivalent combination of relevant experience and training
  • experience in project management, including conceptual development of projects, budget development, supporting grant writing, financial management, project implementation and reporting
  • strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently, using initiative and exercising sound judgement
  • well-developed and tactful communication skills (both verbal and written) with a demonstrated ability to draft, proofread and edit a range of written materials including accurate and well-structured reports and correspondence
  • administrative experience in a tertiary organization and working knowledge of research-intensive academic institutions, structures, and the higher education sector
  • the demonstrated ability to interpret and implement policy and procedures and in establishing and reviewing complex administrative processes
  • strong numeracy skills together with practical experience in budget preparation, reconciliation/budget tracking and managing invoice payments and purchases.
