About the role:
We are seeking a Deputy Managing Lawyer to join the Summary Crim team and a Senior Lawyer to join the Bail and Remand Court team which is part of the broader Criminal Law practice in Melbourne.

You will act as a senior lawyer and advocate by undertaking complex legal work and duty lawyer services, providing expert legal advice and conducting high level casework. You will also assist in the development and implementation of strategies and policies to improve client service including community legal education projects, law reform and other Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) projects as required.

As Deputy Managing Lawyer, you will be responsible for the day to day operational management of a team of legal staff who provide duty lawyer and case work services to clients.

About you:
You will have substantial knowledge or practical experience in criminal law and relevant court procedures and demonstrate the capacity to work as an advocate and case worker in complex criminal law matters. You will be able to provide strategic advice on legal and policy issues and demonstrate an understanding of the role of external stakeholders in the delivery of legal aid services.

Crucial to your success in this role will be your excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to form productive professional relationships and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders at all levels. You will be a team player with the ability to work collaboratively in working towards responding to the needs of clients. You will also demonstrate a commitment to promoting VLA's vision and values.
