The Animal Biosecurity Unit (within the NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI)) is currently looking for a Veterinary Policy & Project Officer to join their team on a full time ongoing role.

Using your interest in the Animal Biosecurity space, and your hands on Veterinary experience you’ll be responsible for:

  • Delivering projects and developing animal biosecurity policy in alignment with state and national priorities across a wide range of animal health issues.
  • Managing and coordinating all activities associated with the Animal Health Committee (AHC) including all endemic, exotic and emerging terrestrial and aquatic animal health issues to ensure that NSW contributes and takes a leadership role in AHC and provide timely decisions and advice to AHC.
  • Working on the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline as required.
  • Liaising closely with key partners and stakeholders including Local Land Services, key industry bodies, government agencies, veterinary practitioners and other service providers.

To be successful in this role you’ll need to have excellent stakeholder engagement skills, the resilience to work under pressure, be able to juggle multiple competing priorities and have the confidence to filter and prioritise requests and negotiate deadlines when required. Interest or skills in epidemiology, data analysis and livestock is encouraged.

You’ll also need to have a degree in Veterinary Science (or equivalent) registrable in NSW, as well as a current NSW Driver Licence with the capacity to travel across the State as required.

Please note: The salary range for this position is $76,931pa to $124,413pa (commensurate with qualifications, skills and experience, as outlined in the Crown Employees (Department of Industry, Skills and Regional Development) Professional Officers Award and the NSW DPI Professional Officer Progression Criteria) plus superannuation.
