About the role…

The successful individuals will deliver high quality animal husbandry and management practices for the Taronga Wildlife Population. The successful individuals will enjoy working in a team to achieve Tarongas strategic objectives and will have the opportunity to deliver inspiring and educational conservation messages to our guests.

Key accountabilities…

  • Work under supervision and with a team to safely provide high quality animal husbandry and management in line with Taronga policies and procedures.
  • Participate in non-routine health and husbandry activities such as animal transports, animal introductions/breeding, restraint and treatment of animals in care.
  • Comply with Taronga’s WHS polices and Safe Work Procedures and work collaboratively to achieve a positive health and wellbeing culture ;
  • Participate in behavioural husbandry (training and enrichment) programmes to ensure optimal animal welfare.
  • Initiate engagement and interaction with guests to support Taronga’s vision, this includes the delivery of educational Keeper talks that inspire our guests to change their behaviour for a positive future.
  • Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers and students across a variety of portfolios to support Taronga’s strategic goals.
  • Actively support Taronga’s commitment to achieving the UN’s Sustainability Development Goals.
  • Undertake minor or routine maintenance on exhibit enclosures and report maintenance requirements and safety issues as appropriate

About you…

We are looking for candidates that have:

  • NSW C Class Drivers License (or ability to transfer current unrestricted license)
  • TB Screening
  • Vaccinations against Zoonotic disease (in accordance with Taronga's Zoonotic disease vaccination matrix)
  • 0 – 4 years of paid animal husbandry related experience
  • Obtain and maintain a current paid NSW Working with Children Check at own expense.

We are looking for candidates that have experience working as part of a team to deliver leading care and husbandry to a variety of native and/or exotic species, to ensure positive health and welfare of Tarongas Wildlife Population.
