Paper Giant is a strategic design consultancy that helps organisations deliver better products, services and policies.

Visual Designers are consultants that apply their visual and interaction design expertise to solve client problems. They do this by scoping and defining design approaches, prototyping and designing digital interfaces, and communicating insights in the form of prototypes, visual reports, presentations or printed collateral.

As a Senior Visual Designer, you will work with project team members to deliver high quality work for clients in the government, not-for-profit, and private sectors. You should have in-depth knowledge and experience in visual and communication design in diverse contexts and mediums. Knowledge and experience in applying human-centred design methodologies to achieve design outcomes is essential.

What you will do

Practice and craft

  • Tackle design problems that range from concise and well-defined to expansive and ambiguous;
  • Use your design expertise to solve client problems by applying visual design and creative prototyping;
  • Lead the generation and communication of new ideas and solutions by using collaborative techniques and workshops as part of a design process.
  • Translate concepts into designs that illustrate simplicity despite system complexity;
  • Use sketching, wireframing and prototyping to communicate and test possible futures for processes, services, physical and digital touchpoints;
  • Embed research methodologies into the design process to test idea and inform decision making and design rationale in a way that can be shared and understood by clients and the project team;
  • Effectively communicate research findings, conceptual ideas, detailed design, and design rationale both verbally and visually; and
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project and client teams to realise ways to transform strategic insights into design artefacts.

Project delivery
  • Contribute your expertise to a project team, including in challenging and novel contexts; and
  • Proactively identify and communicate emerging client, team, project scope, or practice issues.

Managing client relationship
  • Develop meaningful relationships with clients.
  • Convince clients that they should work with us again by delivering excellent work; and
  • Coach clients in human centred design mindsets and approaches.

Ethics, purpose and care
  • Be comfortable with the ambiguity of working in a trans-disciplinary way, and support your teammates;
  • Work to create an environment in which everybody's voices can be heard;
  • Explore and experiment with new tools and methods; and
  • Stay aware of industry trends and identify opportunities for Paper Giant’s own design practice.

The background and skills you must have
  • You are fluent in written and spoken English
  • You have full and current working rights for Australia
  • You have 3 years experience working in a human-centred design field
  • You are competent in a range of design programmes such as the Adobe Suite, Sketch, Figma and other prototyping tools.

  • You mentor team members, lead by example within projects, and create learning opportunities where you can
  • You give thoughtful, constructive, actionable critical feedback
  • You can show at least one complex project where you used design to improve a product, service or policy
  • You will help us to design and build a positive, collaborative, inclusive studio culture
