FELLOW IN GENERAL SURGERY - FULL TIME (38 hours a week)

The Royal Darwin Hospital is seeking a Fellow to join the Department of General Surgery. The applicant must hold, or completing, a FRACS or equivalent and the position is available from the 9th of August for 12 months.

The Royal Darwin Hospital is the major teaching hospital in the NT and receives referrals from the entire Northern Territory as well as northern Western Australia with a catchment population of over 250,000. Charles Darwin University and Flinders Medical School have a 4 year post graduate medical school based in the NT with Royal Darwin Hospital.

Darwin offers a unique experience with complex pathology not seen elsewhere in Australia. This position would be ideal for a Fellow who has recently completed or completing his/ her training and wishes to gain further experience in dealing with a wide range of general surgical conditions, with a desire to prepare for work in rural/ regional Australia or New Zealand.

The Department of General Surgery covers not only the usual General Surgery you will find elsewhere in Australia, but also Paediatric, Burns, Thoracic and Acute Neurosurgery as well as elements of Plastic, Urology and Vascular Surgery alongside our resident subspecialists in these areas.

The Department provides Outreach services to Katherine and Gove Hospitals.

Responsibilities include management of both elective and acute surgical units, oversight and education of junior staff, overnight on-calls with Consultant support, and administrative duties. There is excellent exposure to acute endoscopy and opportunity to complete GESA accreditation.
