The Technical Services Branch provides specialised engineering services for the multi-modal delivery, operations and management of our Transport network, and is the centre of technical expertise driving innovation and best practice. 

The opportunity: 

Due to the unprecedented scale of investment in the Transport for NSW Future Transport strategy we have a permanent opportunity for a Project Surveyor to be part the Technical Service’s team.

The Project Surveyor manages internal and external survey resources on TfNSW projects, to deliver a program of survey services and advice. The role also assists in the management and auditing of professional services contracts.

What you will be involved in:

The role works in the Engineering Survey Unit within the Survey Discipline of Engineering Services of the TfNSW and must assist and support the Senior Surveyors and Survey Managers in the development and deployment of survey capability and expertise required to manage current and future technical risk across infrastructure projects.

  • Contribute to TfNSW survey capability by the provision of expert technical advice and survey services to infrastructure projects and project development teams in the investigation, development and/or construction stages.
  • Ensure the integrity of project technical data by auditing both in-house and external products against the scope of works and technical criteria and quality management systems.
  • Contribute to sound decision making for project development and progression by advising project managers on the control, collection, interpretation, presentation and application of surveying and spatial information.
  • Provide solutions for contractual and technical problems for the client, by utilising TfNSW corporate systems for contract management; using advanced knowledge of survey equipment, methods and computing skills.
  • Contribute to survey related skills transfer between TfNSW and private industry and the development, maintenance and retention of TfNSW capabilities by identifying training requirements and assisting in the training and education of professional service providers and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with TfNSW, regulatory and statutory requirements and improve work efficiencies in technical, WHS and environmental matters provided by internal surveying resources and survey service providers to TfNSW, by verifying the application of specifications, standards & procedures and participating in quality improvement processes.
  • Contribute to consistency in processes and the enhancement of TfNSW reputation as a technical leader in road and bridge surveying by working with professional service providers to improve product and service outputs.
  • Support the Survey Managers to maintain a motivated, skilled, innovative and continually improving workforce by aligning personal development opportunities to TfNSW business objectives and providing constructive feedback on performance.

 About you: 

We are looking for a Project Surveyor that can take TfNSW into the new era of engineering.

You will be a self-starter, an autonomous operator, who proactively takes the initiative to establish effective relationships and solve problems. You will possess strong communication skills and attention to detail, and be able to manage multiple cross-functional priorities with conflicting deadlines. Proficient multitasking, organisational, teamwork and planning skills are key.

You will have demonstrated experience in construction set outs & surveillance upholding G71&G73 specification to ensure quality. You will also provide the assistant surveyors with guidance.

Key Knowledge and Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in the management delivery of geospatial, engineering and construction surveys and services and the development and implementation of Quality Assurance and technical documents.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivery of geospatial, engineering and construction survey services through implementation and managements of internal and external contract resources.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of modern technology and software related to surveying, relevant legislation, management systems, specifications, policies and procedures related to surveying.
  • Possess a current and valid Australian motor vehicle driver license and willingness to work outside normal working hours and travel on occasion.

Essential requirements

  • Diploma qualification or equivalent in Surveying and demonstrated extensive relevant experience in the provision of surveying technical advice and management of technical risk in infrastructure projects

Salary and Benefits

USS 8 ($102,098-$ 109,561) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
