JOB DESCRIPTION

Role and Responsibilities

The Quality Assurance Specialist is a member of the software development team at 21st Century Software. The candidate will work within the development team to design and execute software testing strategies to fully test mainframe software products to ensure they function according to specifications and customer requirements and meet business needs. Testing activities include all aspects of the products: functions, components, performance, regression, and service. 

The role emphasizes the need for a certain level of software development skills to assist in the software testing process. The role primarily focuses on testing with some opportunity for software design and development assignments.


  •  Sets up product test environments for the z/OS operating systems
  •  Designs and plans testing activities that cover all aspects of the software: functions, components, performance, regression, service
  •  Develops test cases, test scenarios and use cases
  •  Investigates and diagnoses problems uncovered during testing
  •  Recreates problems as reported by customers or as discovered through internal testing.
  •  Validates fixes for problems
  •  Provides feedback on usability, serviceability, and documentation
  •  Reports status as required


Qualifications and Education Requirements

  •  Familiarity with testing methodologies, tools, and techniques
  •  Experience with z/OS systems with the requisite skills in TSO, ISPF, JCL, CLIST, REXX
  •  Software development experience using High Level Assembler (multi-tasking)
  •  Facility with debugging, using z platform tools, such as SVC DUMP, SLIP, GTF, z/XDC, etc.
  •  Keen interest in finding software defects.
  •  Eager to learn new products, skills, and take on new challenges.
  •  Self-motivated.


Preferred Skills

  •  z/OS (MVS) and/or z/VM systems programming experience and/or other software installation and administration; SMP/E
  •  Any Db2 experience: DBA, SQL, programming

This is a full time position.

Although this role is Perth based, we encourage applicants from other Australian locations to also apply for this position.
