  • Permanent Part-Time Position
  • 0.5 FTE, 17.5 Hours Per Week
  • $37.65 - $40.61 per hour plus 9.5% superannuation
  • Days include: Monday, Thursday, Friday and every third Saturday

About Moonee Valley City Council’s Library Services

Moonee Valley City Council provides library services at five locations across the municipality; Ascot Vale Library, Avondale Heights Library and Learning Centre, Flemington Library, Niddrie Library and Sam Merrifield Library (Moonee Ponds). Services include availability and loans of books and other materials, collection management, information provision, access to computers and the internet, online services and events.

The Opportunity

Positioned within Council’s Community Development department, this opportunity will see you playing a pivotal role in the delivery of programs and services for adults at Moonee Valley libraries. You will work as part of a professional and friendly team in providing high-quality customer service to residents, as well as support the maintenance of library collections.

Responsibilities

  • Providing customer service through floor walking and active engagement with customers;
  • Undertaking library tasks including; placing reservations, joining new members, assisting with room and equipment bookings, issuing and returning loans and collecting fees and charges;
  • Assisting customers in the use of equipment and technology including, but not limited to; computers, photocopiers, wireless internet access and library apps; and,
  • Developing and delivering responsive and relevant leisure and learning programs for adult members of the community.

Roster

  • Monday: 9:30am - 5:00pm (60 Minute meal break)
  • Thursday: 9:00am - 1:00pm
  • Friday: 10:00am - 6:00pm (60 Minute meal break)
  • Every third Saturday: 10:00am - 12:00pm

Skills & Experience

  • Diploma of Library and Information Services acceptable for Library Technician membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) required for this position;
  • Demonstrated customer service experience essential, with public library experience being desirable;
  • Well-developed Information Technology skills, including demonstrated experience in troubleshooting of computer and mobile technologies and the online environment;
  • Ability to deliver library services and programs to adult members of the public; and,
  • Current and valid Working With Children Check, or willingness to obtain.
