Reporting to the Executive Director, Tribunal Support, the Assistant Director, Member Support leads the provision of support to Members of the Commission across Australia. Working closely with senior staff across the Commission including the Assistant Director, Operational Performance, the Assistant Director will use their highly developed knowledge of Commission operations (or an ability to quickly obtain this knowledge) to apply sound judgment in deciding how operational and strategic objectives can be achieved.
Alongside two Tribunal Services Coordinators, the Assistant Director will ensure the associate team provides professional, high quality, consistent support to Members as well as maintains a superior level of service to external parties and adheres to Commission practices and procedures. Under broad direction the Assistant Director will lead and manage projects and plans that align with the Commission's digital strategy and Corporate plans.
Working closely with a national leadership team, headed by the Executive Director - Tribunal Support, it is envisaged that the Assistant Director will significantly contribute to organisation planning and provide timely and meaningful reporting upon which sound business decisions can be made.

The key duties of the position include

  1. Provide high level leadership of the Commission's Member Support Team that provides support to Members of the Commission across Australia
  2. Have oversight of the work of two team leaders who together manage the Associates team, comprising some 70 geographically dispersed staff
  3. Ensure associates provide outstanding support essential to the successful operation of the Commission, including administration, case management, in-court duties and legal research
  4. Maintain an appropriate level of resourcing across a large, geographically dispersed team, to provide an effective and skilled Associate cohort that can support Members in fulfilling their statutory obligations
  5. Make balanced decisions and provide expert and sound advice to staff and stakeholders to analyse and resolve complex issues in a high pressure working environment
  6. Co-ordinate recruitment activities for the engagement of new Associates
  7. Assist team leaders and work collaboratively with Chambers to operate the Associate relief roster, including allocating staff according to organisational need
  8. Work closely with the People & Culture team to ensure Associates have the skills and resources required to perform their duties to the highest standard and contribute to Member professional development
  9. Provide leadership and project management of initiatives to achieve continuous improvement in quality and timeliness
  10. Lead and manage projects and plans that align with the Commission's digital strategy and Corporate plans and that support the effective functioning of the court
  11. Manage the transcript and monitoring contract including liaising with providers
  12. As a senior member of the Branch, contribute to organisation planning, reporting and performance management, and assist the Commission achieve its organisational goals
  13. Perform other duties as directed by the Executive Director, Tribunal Support
