About the Role

An opportunity has arisen for a full time Identified Cultural Specialist within the Intensive Family Support Service team in Underwood.

We are seeking an experienced Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural specialist who is able to build strong internal and external relationships, someone who is able to lead and develop others towards meeting organisational objectives through coaching, feedback and regular connections. The individual will have the ability to build strong internal and external relationships and bring a sense of inclusivity and innovation. The ideal candidate will display a strong customer-focussed attitude, commitment to display organisational values and contribute to team goals and wider organisational success.

To Be Successful

In order to be successful for this position, you will display and have experience / knowledge in the following:

Qualifications and Experience


  • Degree in Human Services or similar with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in this area of work particularly specialising in Cultural Practices and Cultural delivery.
  • Sound knowledge of and demonstrated experience in applying, therapeutic processes and practices, particularly in relation child protection. Analysing, evaluating and making objective judgements and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading a team to achieve service performance outcomes together with an ability to provide quality cultural supervision and training.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and maintaining client documentation to a high standard.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in ways that are innovative and culturally appropriate for Indigenous and linguistically diverse groups.
  • Ability to work within the beliefs, missions, values and policies of Uniting Care and adhere to the provisions of the Workplace Health and Safety and other relevant Legislation as they apply to the region’s services.
  • Drivers Licence
  • Positive Blue Card

Additionally you will have the ability to display:

  • Demonstrated skills and sound knowledge gained through substantial experience working with children and families including providing culturally appropriate advice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Cultural practices/protocol/engagement and barriers.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in negotiation, interpretation, advocacy and conflict resolution alongside emotionally regulated responses.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication frameworks and practices, that are congruent with a strengths based approach and demonstrated professional integrity with respect to such matters as confidentiality and client interests.
  • Proven ability to develop resources and delivery effective education, training and awareness sessions to professionals and volunteers.
  • Extensive specialist knowledge of at least one of the core service delivery areas and a working knowledge of a further core service delivery area.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate cross culturally including speaking publicly to diverse groups of people while applying cultural sensitivity and understanding.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues to positively influence outcomes.

The salary is paid at SCHADS Level 6.1 $90,439.44 PA + 9.5% super + salary sacrifice.
